Eric Schmidt steps down as chairman of Alphabet

One of the longest-running Google executives is stepping away from the tech giant.  Eric Schmidt, who joined Google in 2001 as CEO and served as executive chairman of Google’s parent company Alphabet, is stepping aside from his current role.
